Lovina Beach Bali Indonesia

4 February 2026

Lovina Beach, a black sand beach located in the northern part of Bali, is part of the Buleleng Regency. It offers beautiful scenery, and the attraction of watching dolphins in the morning at sunrise is a favorite. Many tourists come to Lovina Beach just to see the dolphins in the open sea, even leaving as early as 2:00 a.m. from hotels in southern Bali, such as Kuta, Nusa Dua, Sanur, Seminyak, Denpasar, and the surrounding areas.
The Lovina tourist area is a coastal area with its main attraction being its calm waters, with its blackish sand, coral reefs, and fish. Due to its calm waters, Lovina is ideal for water activities such as diving, snorkeling, swimming, fishing, sailing, paddleboarding, or simply soaking in the sea. In addition to these attractions, dolphins can also be seen in their natural habitat. Hundreds of dolphins can be seen in the morning, approximately 1 km offshore.
The Lovina area is currently the center of tourism facilities in Buleleng Regency, providing accommodations including budget hotels, star-rated hotels, tourist lodges, restaurants, and other facilities. This area receives the largest number of tourists visiting Buleleng.
There is no clear evidence or sources regarding the origin of the name Lovina. According to the sons of the late Anak Agung Panji Tisna, a descendant of the king of Buleleng and a renowned writer, the name Lovina was given by the deceased to a place he owned in Kaliasem Village, where he first built a bungalow as a resting place.
The name Lovina is said to be derived from the name of a small hotel in India, Lafeina, where he stayed and wrote a book entitled "Ni Ketut Widhi," which has been translated into several languages. In memory of the hotel, the deceased's land was named Lovina. However, another version states that the name Lovina was given because two trees planted by his son grew intertwined. In this case, Lovina comes from Latin, meaning "to love or care for one another." During his tenure from 1988 to 1993, the Regent of Buleleng, Drs. I Ketut Ginantra interpreted the name Lovina as an abbreviation of "Love" and "Ina," meaning "love of Indonesia."
